Ash Wednesday Service and Imposition of the Ashes at Clarkdale United Methodist Church

Celebrate the Lenten Season at Clarkdale United Methodist Church.

Clarkdale United Methodist Church celebrates the beginning of the Lenten Season on Wednesday, Feb. 13, with Ash Wednesday Service in the Clarkdale UMC Sanctuary at 7 p.m. The Sanctuary will be open to the public on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 11 a.m. until noon for the Imposition of the Ashes.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs 40 days before Easter (Sundays do not count). According to the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the desert before the beginning of his public ministry, during which he endured temptation by Satan. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of this 40-day liturgical period of prayer and fasting.

Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of believers as a reminder and celebration of human mortality, and as a sign of mourning and repentance to God. The ashes used are typically gathered after the palms from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned. Come and join us at Clarkdale UMC for this powerful and moving experience.

Clarkdale UMC has a number of events scheduled for the Easter Season that are suitable for the entire family. Beginning with the Annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 23 at 2 p.m. and continuing through Easter Sunday “Sonrise” Service in the Amphitheater at 7 a.m. and Easter Service in the Sanctuary at 11 a.m. on March 31.

Other events include services for Mothers Day on May 13 and Fathers Day on June 16. Come to Clarkdale UMC and celebrate with us. Plan to attend any or all of these events at Clarkdale United Methodist Church, 5061 Austell-Powder Springs Road, in Clarkdale, Ga. For additional information, call the church office, 770-948-3545.
