Girl Scouts Volunteer at Mostly Mutts

Powder Springs girls spent the afternoon helping man's best friends.

Girl Scouts from Troop #2133 in Powder Springs spent several hours over the last year volunteering at the Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue and Adoptions in Kennesaw. The girls chose Mostly Mutts for their community service project while working toward the Bronze Award.

The Bronze Award is the highest honor that Junior Girl Scouts can earn. Girls work as a team to plan and complete a project. For their project, the girls purchased handkerchiefs and painted “Adopt Me” on them. The dogs wore them when they were taken to adoption days at PetSmart and the Pet Supermarket.

In addition to the decorated handkerchiefs, the girls have put in volunteer hours at the Mostly Mutts facility. The most popular job the girls had was to take the dogs for walks. They also cleaned out the kennels, washed the food bowls and water dishes, and picked up after the dogs.

In August, the girls invited a few scouts from another Powder Springs troop, #2088, to share the experience. The girls had a very rewarding afternoon helping the dogs and are thinking of what they can do to help Mostly Mutts in the future.

Mostly Mutts is a non-profit organization serving the metro Atlanta area. For more information, visit their website at www.mostlymutts.org.
