Where Are My Free Braves Tickets?

Cobb County just gave a profitable professional baseball team $300 million of tax payer’s money.

A thank you would be nice but not enough. Evidence that this gift would be returned by an equivalent amount of tax revenue would be good but that hasn’t happened and never will.

Every Cobb commissioner, not named Lisa Cupid, gave away a lot more than just a bunch of money. They killed hope and optimism in Cobb. They started a downward spiral from which Cobb may never recover. First, they gave away any chance of Cobb Voters ever trusting their Republican elected officials when it comes to a tax increase for anything, no matter how logical or necessary.

Cobb desperately needs additional funding for education. What we hear from our elected officials, like School Board member David Banks and Commission Chairman Tim Lee, is cut taxes on the rich through reduced property taxes and increased homestead exemptions to further lower property taxes.

On income taxes, our legislators want to freeze the rate for now and eliminate it eventually. Their solution is to transfer the tax load over to sales taxes which reduce taxes on the rich and increase taxes on the poor.

On additional funding for transportation, our Cobb Republicans, especially Rep. Ed Setzler, came out solidly against the Transportation SPLOST and are counting on road fairies to finance transportation construction and pot-hole elves to do the maintenance.

Cobb Republicans will continue to criticize Democrats by singing the Tax and Spend chorus because it is the only song they know. Republicans will continue to get reelected in their gerrymandered districts like Commissioner Bob Ott and Senator Hunter Hill.  Republicans who hate their candidate’s deception, hypocrisy, and funding by special interests won’t be able to bring themselves to vote for a Democrat.

There is our future. Underfunded schools will get less money to reduce class sizes. Underfunded roads will get less money for repair and construction. There will be no way to get reasonable citizens elected who use reality math when it comes to taxes and spending.  Cobb County will become more backward and less attractive.

While we would like to have our taxes pay for quality public education and quality public transportation, the best we can hope for is FREE BRAVES TICKETS.

Most likely it will be on Cobb Night at the ballpark, after the Braves have been eliminated from the post season, in the nose bleed section, on a Monday, with the temperatures near freezing.
