Bill Dodd, a WWII Serviceman, Dies on Veterans Day

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.

Bill Dodd, a Powder Springs man who served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, died today. He was 86. 

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Marietta, with Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews and Rev. Elaine Wilder officiating. Interment will be in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery. 

William "Bill" M. Dodd III committed his life to serving others, according to his obituary. Along with his service in World War II, he had perfect attendance as an officer for the Marietta Lions Club for 50 years, and as an usher at the First United Methodist Church of Marietta for 60 years.

At the church, he was in the Progressive Sunday School class.

Bill attended Marietta High School and the Atlanta Business College. He would go on to retire from People’s Financial in Marietta.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Brinkley Dodd Holcombe; son and daughter-in-law Darrell and Heidi Dodd; grandchildren, Aimee Holcombe, Emily Dodd, Stephen Dodd, Andrew Dodd, and Caroline Dodd; nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Marietta designated for the park on Polk.
