Samuel Mobley, Korean Vet, Dies at 83

Visitation is today from 1-3 p.m. at the West Cobb Funeral Home & Crematory.

Samuel Dean Mobley, an 83-year-old Powder Springs man, died Thursday of complications from several illnesses.

Visitation is today from 1-3 p.m. at the West Cobb Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Mobley will be cremated following the service.

The family requests that no food be brought but instead donated to a local food bank.

Mobley served in the Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of corporal. He graduated from Georgia State College (now Georgia State University) in 1959. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and a charter member of the college's Sigma Nu chapter.

For 18 years, Mobley worked for Colonial Stores, Inc. as an accountant and internal auditor. He also met his wife there. He retired from the Georgia Department of Public Safety in 1995 with 27 years of service.

Sam is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Glover Mobley; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Evan Herring of Hiram; daughter, Dena Hudson; and grandsons, Brett and Luke Hudson of Marietta.

He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Reuben and Julia Mobley of Stone Mountain, and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Mobley; a brother, Bob Mobley; and a sister, Julia Davis Diebel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mobley's favorite charities: the American Heart Association, the American Kidney Foundation, the American Lung Association and the American Diabetes Association.
