Colonial Hills Christian Varsity Boys Soccer Takes ICSGA Title

The Colonial Hills Rams defeated the Horizon Wariors 2-1 in overtime to claim the ICSGA boys soccer state title.

Four years ago last Saturday, the boys soccer team was well done with soccer. After their first season, things didn't look too bright, but fast-forward three years and today is a day of celebration for the Rams as they defeated the Horizon Wariors 2-1 in overtime to claim the ICSGA boys soccer state title.

It was a fierce battle as both teams offenses were dictated to by each team's defense.

The Rams' Mark Ferrell scored first at the 24:39 mark in the first period from a behind-the-back-heel pass from teammate Nick Smith, giving Colonial Hills a 1-0 lead. Less than four minutes later, the Warriors scored, knotting the game at 1-1 for the rest of the half.

The Rams' Juan Carlos Little had a shot just as the half was ending, but it went just wide right, hitting the post. In the second half, the Rams pressured the goal and Horizon's defense with numerous shots on goal but missing by mere inches.

After 80 minutes of play, neither team could score, sending the game into a 10-minute overtime period. With 3:40 left in overtime, freshman Hamish Lamb took a shot from outside the 18 hitting the crossbar and senior Nick Smith headed the rebound into the goal, putting the Rams up for good and sealing the title.
