2 Arrested in Powder Springs Hit-and-Run

Two vehicles, not one, were involved in the accident, according to the Powder Springs Police Department.

A Power Springs teenager and an unidentified juvenile have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run near the intersection of Shipp Road and Lost Lakes Drive.

About 7:22 p.m. May 29, a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Emanuel Denzel Beal struck a 14-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle, said Maj. Matt Boyd with the Powder Springs Police Department. A second vehicle that was following Beal's vehicle struck the bicycle, but not the boy.

Both vehicles left the scene, Boyd said.

The boy was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with non-life threatening injuries and later released, he said.

Beal surrendered to police on June 11, cooperated with detectives and provided the identity of the driver of the second vehicle, Boyd said.

Beal is in Cobb County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $5,000 bond on charges that include leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident with injuries and too fast for conditions. The first offense is a felony.

The juvenile, who was released to his parents, faces similar charges. Because he didn't strike the boy, all of the charges against the juvenile are misdemeanors.
