Battery Tester Stolen from Advance Auto Parts

A Powder Springs police report values the device at $5,000.

A battery tester was stolen from the on Sailors Parkway on Saturday. A report values the device at $5,000. 

Police responded about 7 p.m., the report says. An employee of the store said two people entered the store, one of which approached her to exchange items.

While the two were talking, a witness came up and said she saw the other person take the tester from behind a cash register and leave the store.

The suspect left in a black Cadillac SUV, the witness told the employee. The person who discussed exchanging items left the store after, the report says.

Cobb County and Powder Springs police went to the exchanger’s house and encountered his wife, the report says. She called her husband, who then traveled back to Advance Auto Parts to meet with police.

After a field interview, he and another man with him were detained and taken to the police station, where a detective took over the case, the report says. They were both released after being interviewed.

The report identifies the suspect as Jonny Mitchell but does not say how he was named as a suspect.

The battery tester was entered into the Georgia Crime Information Center database as a stolen item.
