Child Seriously Injured in Powder Springs Crash

A 5-year-old with serious injuries was flown to Scottish Rite hospital after the collision at Macland and John Ward roads.

Four people were injured Sunday afternoon when two vehicles collided in the Powder Springs area.

The most serious injury was to a 5-year-old passenger in a vehicle that was struck in the passenger side by another vehicle turning onto John Ward Road from Macland Road. The child was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite hospital in Sandy Springs.

Cobb County police are investigating the crash, which occurred at 4:05 p.m., police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

"Alcohol, drugs and excessive speed were not involved," Pierce said of the initial police investigation.

Charges may be filed against the 69-year-old woman whose car struck the other vehicle, Pierce said. She was taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 43-year-0ld woman driving the vehicle that was struck and a 12-year-old passenger were taken by ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Pierce said.
