Crime Chronicle: Ecstasy, Car Stolen

Accounts of the following incidents are based on reports.

Burglary, Forced Entry, Damage to Property, Dec. 30-Jan. 2, 4000 block of Preston Place Lane: The homeowner told police his home had been broken into and that several items had been taken.

Theft of Less Than $500, Jan. 3-4, 3500 block of Hopkins Court: A man told police someone had stolen property from his neighbor.

Attempted Armed Robbery, Jan. 6, Zaxby's on Brownsville Road: Police responded to in reference to "suspicious activity" from three males, but when they arrived, the males were gone. Those at the restaurant said "they had observed through the surveillance camera three males standing immediately outside the rear gated area of the building where the employees exit at the end of their shift," the report says. The report doesn't explain how the incident type was an attempted armed robbery.

Theft of an Automobile, Jan. 12, 3600 block of Ponderosa Lane: A Ponderosa Lane man told police that he let a friend borrow his 1999 GMC Sierra for a week starting Dec. 28 to get some belongings from Florida. But the friend never returned, and his phone went straight to voicemail. Police entered the vehicle into the system as stolen.

Controlled Substance Violation, Open Container, Tinted Windows, Jan. 15, 4400 block of Brownsville Road: Mark Anthony Florence, a 47-year-old Powder Springs man, was pulled over in the parking lot for having windows tinted too dark. He was acting "disoriented" and his eyes were bloodshot, the report says. There was an open beer can in the car. Florence intially said he wouldn't step out of the car but complied upon the officer's second request. Inside his pocket was a bag containing 20 pills that looked to be Ecstasy. Florence was charged with violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, having an open container, and having windows tinted too dark.

Theft of More Than $500, Jan. 15, 3700 block of Tommy Drive: A woman told police that she had items stolen from her home. The narrative doesn't have any further relevant information, saying, "This initiated my investigation." But the report does say that Justin Blake Owenby, 23, was charged with theft by taking of more than $500.

Theft by Taking, Jan. 15, 3900 Old Lost Mountain Road: A man told police that his roommate's friend stole several of his prescribed pills: 94 methadone, 80 oxycodone, and 48 Zanyx.

Burglary, Forced Entry, Jan. 13-16, 4100 block of Woodcrest Drive: A woman told police that someone had broken into the house of her uncle, who recently passed away. Stolen was a metal safe that the family believed to contain between $20,000 and $30,000.
