Classes Unaffected by Fire at McEachern

A dumpster and a storage shed were damaged in the blaze.

Classes were unaffected today at following an early morning fire that damaged a dumpster and a storage building.

Cobb County firefighters arrived at the school between 1 and 1:30 a.m. and had left the scene by 3 a.m., said Lt. Dan Dupree, a spokesman for Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services.

Arson is not suspected, Dupree said, but police did take a man who was on school grounds into custody for questioning. There hasn't been anything found to link him to the fire, Dupree added.

Dupree said it wasn't clear whether the fire started in the dumpster or in the storage building.

The fire was’t near any buildings with classrooms, said Doug Goodwin, a spokesman for Cobb County schools.

“This was all way before school started, so it didn’t have any affect on operations,” he added.
