Couple Arrested in Lithia Springs Home Invasion

Police followed the girlfriend when she bonded out of jail, and when her boyfriend came to pick her up, they took him into custody.

Jamaal Pinkney, 23, and Raven Stephens, 22, were arrested by Douglas County authorities this week for allegedly participating in a Dec. 31 home invasion on Marsh Avenue in Lithia Springs.

Stephens was arrested on Tuesday at her residence and charged with conspiracy to commit burglary. When she bonded out of jail, she was followed by deputies as she walked along Highway 78 in hopes that she'd lead them to Pinkney, her boyfriend.

"We figured she'd contact her boyfriend to pick her up," Sheriff's Department Detective Jay Smith said. "The vehicle that picked her up matched the description of the vehicle we were looking for."

A traffic stop was then conducted and the driver, Pinkney, was taken into custody. He matched the description of the person who attempted the burglary.

Pinkney was charged with two criminal attempts to commit burglary, one count of burglary, interferring with a 911 call, and two counts of aggravated assault.

Smith said Pinkey had broken out a window at the residence and waited in the basement for the two elderly women living there to go to sleep. After about an hour, he lost his patience and kicked in the upstairs door.

He put a handgun in the face of one woman and pushed her down on the couch, police said. He attempted to duct tape the hands of the two women, ages 77 and 63, but they refused. He then grabbed their purses and dumped the contents on the floor, looking for cash or credit cards.

Not finding anything, he burst out the front door. Smith said Pinkney and Stephens have two children together, and Stephens arranged for a babysitter for the robbery.

Police are still searching for a third suspect, the driver of the get-away vehicle.
