Powder Springs Crime Map: McDonald's Run Results in Attack

Editor's Note: Accounts of the following incidents are based on reports from and what those involved tell police. The incidents with specific street addresses are mapped out above.

Theft by Taking, Financial Identity Fraud

When: March 26
Where: 4700 block of Deer Chase
A woman told police that after her daughter stole a book of checks from her, she closed the account. The woman was unsure if she wanted to press charges, but police took down the information.

Theft by Conversion

When: Between Oct. 10 and April 12
Where: 3100 block of Kipling Drive
A woman told police she was arrested in 2011, so her dogs were given to a neighbor until the issue was resolved. The woman said the neighbor had given one of the dogs to another neighbor, who refused to give the dog back. When police met with both neighbors, they said that the woman's family and belongings were evicted when she was arrested. The neighbors said the woman's son brought the dogs over to help find a home for them. Because of the conflicting stories, police turned the case over to Civil Court.

Burglary

When: April 14, 1:10-1:54 p.m.
Where: 3000 block of Palomino Drive
A woman told police someone forced their way into the home through a rear door and took a 42-inch TV, 19-inch TV, Playstation 3, and Acer laptop.

Person Dead

When: April 15, 11:18 a.m.
Where: 3900 block of Louise Street
Sheila Kelley Booth, 59, was dead upon arrival of responders after the 911 call from her housemate, who was out shopping and came home to find Booth on her bed not breathing. The case was turned over to investigators.

Simple Battery

When: April 16, 8-10:33 p.m.
Where: 4200 block of Atlanta Street
Larry David Covington, 55, was charged with simple battery for an injury that someone else living at the residence sustained.

Battery—Visible Harm

When: April 17, 5:16 a.m.
Where:  on Powder Springs Road
A man told police that he was in the passenger seat of a vehicle in the McDonald's parking lot with the window down. The man said another man ran up to the car, punched him multiple times, then jumped into a silver Camry and sped away. The victim said the man likely attacked him because he believed the victim had something to do with his house being burglarized. The victim later told police he didn't want to press charges.

Theft by Taking

When: Between Nov. 1 and April 20
Where: on Marietta Street
The owners fired an employee who was allegedly making copies of tickets of customers turning in clothes. Sometime after the termination, the owners said the backdoor had signs of forced entry and they believe the former employee was opening up during closed hours and days and pocketing the money made.

Theft by Taking

When: April 20, 8:37 p.m.
Where: 3200 block of Country Walk Drive
A man told police he had just purchased the house and the copper lines had been cut from the garage.

Public Indecency, Lewdness/Public Obscenity

When: April 21, 7:40-8:30 p.m.
Where: Silver Comet Trail parking lot at Shipp Road
A teen was facing a car parked in the parking lot when he heard police pull in and walked away. The officer noticed that at least two people were in the backseat. Robert Tanner Hill, 18, of Powder Springs was charged with lewdness/public obscenity. A female juvenile was charges with a juvenile complaint, and she was released to a guardian at her residence. The report isn't clear what exactly the charges were for.

Burglary

When: April 23, 11:40 a.m.-1:45 p.m.
Where: 3400 block of New Macland Road
When the homeowners returned home, they discovered that two gold bracelets and an LCD TV had been taken. They told police that someone may have entered through the carport door.

Simple Battery, Cruelty to Children

When: April 25, 12:10-1:10 a.m.
Where: 4000 block of Buck Road
A woman told police she is separated from her husband and that he came over because he was depressed and made comments about suicide. When the conversation became heated, the woman said she started to call 911 because she was "very concerned" for him. She said he grabbed the phone from her, then their son came out. She said he told her to get out of the vehicle, and when she refused, he shoved her out, injuring her shoulder and hip. The man began to back up with the door open, almost striking their son, she said, adding that she grabbed him so he wouldn't get hit. A witness confirmed the woman was pushed. Police located the man, 30-year-old Douglas Eugene Robinson, who said "whatever (she) told (police) was probably true." Robinson was charged with simple battery and 3rd degree cruelty to children.

Burglary

When: April 25, 8 a.m.
Where: 4200 block of Morningside Drive
A man told police that when he came home, his TV was missing. He believed the burglar entered through a window.

Theft by Taking

When: April 27, 1:13-2:17 a.m.
Where: on Sailors Parkway
Police saw a male, 27-year-old Daniel Cloud of Powder Springs, walk from to Wendy's, "looking side to side in attempt to see if anyone was watching him." He went to the dumpster behind Wendy's, picked up a large plastic bag, turned to Publix and sprinted, got in a Dodge Durango, then drove off. "Due to the suspicious nature of the suspect, I pulled behind the vehicle and performed a traffic stop." The report's narrative doesn't offer further information, but the report does indicate Cloud was charged with theft of less than $500.

Theft

When: April 28, 12:03 a.m. to 4:24 a.m.
Where: 4100 block of Misty Morn Way
The complainant told that his friend took a package from his house. He also said the friend said she had it and that he could come get it or it would be thrown away. The complainant said he told her the package can be tracked, but she said, "Maybe they can track it to the trash can."

Theft by Taking

When: April 28, 6:15-9:45 p.m.
Where: Silver Comet Trail at New Macland Road
A man said he lost his cell phone while on the trail, and someone picked up when he called it. The person agreed to meet him but never showed.
