Crime Chronicle: Battery, Several Burglaries

Editor's Note: The accounts of the following incidents are based on  reports.

Forged Check at United Community Bank on Sailors Parkway Nov. 16: A $1,480 forged check was cashed from . The victim, a Winston resident, said the same woman tried to cash an $800 check the day before, but the manager stopped the transaction because he knew the victim. The victim suspected the woman might be a friend of her son.

Simple Battery in the 3500 block of Hopkins Court Nov. 20: The complainant told police that her daughter had been shot with an air soft gun by a juvenile male. The daughter showed police a “large circular” welt on her stomach. A witness said she saw the incident after hearing the victim yell “stop shooting me” but the boy kept shooting.

The witness didn’t intervene at first because she thought the boy was using a water gun, but did stop them after he heard the boy cursing at the girl. The boy told police the girl had smacked him on the face, but there weren’t any marks on his face and several juvenile witnesses said she didn’t smack him. The boy was told he’d have to appear in court on a simple battery charge.

Burglary, Forced Entry in the 4200 block of Akins Ridge Lane Nov. 21: Entry was initially made through a side door into the garage, and then it appeared the door into the actual house was kicked in. The homeowner wasn’t sure of everything that had been taken, but did notice these items missing: a Coach purse, Playstation 2, home stereo system, printer, and computer.

Burglary, Forced Entry in the 3800 block of Blythewood Circle sometime between Nov. 22-23: The son of the homeowner told police that his mother was taken to the hospital on Nov. 21. When he arrived to check on the house Nov. 23, it appeared someone had broken a window to get in. The son said his mother would have to check to see if anything was missing. 

Burglary, Forced Entry in the 4000 block of Akins Ridge Court sometime between Nov. 22-26: The homeowner arrived after being out of town to discover her front door was open and that her rear door had been forced open. Parts of the house appeared rummaged through, but the homeowner wasn’t immediately sure if anything was missing.

Burglary, Forced Entry in the 4500 block of Falls Avenue sometime between Nov. 23-27: There was “substantial damage” to the backdoor. The homeowner said nothing appeared missing. He was unable to re-secure the backdoor because of the damage but said he would have it repaired. 

Burglary, Forced Entry in the 3900 block of Bagley Forest Drive Nov. 26: Police arrived at the house after an audible alarm went off. It appeared that someone had forced their way into the home through the backdoor. Police checked to make sure no one was inside, and when the homeowner arrived, she said nothing appeared missing. 

Business Burglary at the Powder Springs Brake, Lube and Tire on Austell-Powder Springs Road sometime between Nov. 26-28: The manager told police that someone broke into the building and stole $203. 

Theft at Xtreme Styles on Sailors Parkway Nov. 25: An employee told police that her purse was stolen while she was working. She believes it was a man who was sticking his head in the backdoor of . Police requested security footage from a neighboring business, Powder Springs Wine and Spirits.

Theft at Powder Springs Wine and Spirits Nov. 25: The owner of the business, which is next to the beauty salon, told police that items were stolen from his truck. The description he gave to police matched the description given by those at the beauty salon. Stolen was a government-issued check, checkbooks, and a prescription bottle of pills.

Theft in the 4200 block of Mistymorn Point Nov. 26: A basketball goal was cut from the chain that secured it to the garage door.

Theft at Home Depot on Sailors Parkway Nov. 26: An employee of told police that a Garmon GPS, digital camera, and memory card for the camera were stolen.
