Crime Chronicle: Canine Assists in Burglary Arrest

Here are recent incidents responded to by Powder Springs police.

Accounts of the following incidents are based on reports.

Theft by Taking, between Feb. 1-18, 3900 block of Evelyn Drive: A woman told police that someone took a lawnmower from her carport.

Simple Battery and Public Drunkenness, between Feb. 17-18, 3900 block of Anderson Street: Officers were dispatched on a call of someone threatening people with a gun. Several people were in the yard and road when they arrived. Witnesses said there was no gun involved, but a female was yelling that another female had attacked her with a knife. The narrative ends there, saying, "At this time, I began my investigation." The report indicates that Erica Denise Turner, 40, of Powder Springs was charged with public drunkenness and simple battery. Her mugshot is attached; she has since made her $2,000 bail, jail records show. The report says another person, "Offender Freeman," was arrested but doesn't elaborate who she is.

Theft by Taking, between Feb. 17-18, 4100 block of Groveland Park Drive: A man told police that someone took the 84-inch bucket for his Bobcat.

Simple Battery, Feb. 19, 4200 block of Springdale Circle: A physical altercation began between a 17-year-old and her sister and mother. No charges were pressed, but the mother indicated that her husband would be taking the daughter to a family member in New York.

Burglary, No Forced Entry, Feb. 19, same house on Springdale Circle several hours later: While the homeowner was out of town overnight, someone broke into the house and took numerous electronics and office equipment.

Burglary, Forced Entry, Feb. 21, 3900 block of Bagely Forest Drive: Terrance Denard Brown, 18, of Powder Springs, was arrested in the burglary after a canine followed a scent to a nearby home. A witness gave a description of the burglar, which matched Brown. The witness scared off the burglar before entry was made into the main part of the house. Brown's mugshot is attached; he remains at the Cobb County jail without bond, jail records show.
