Crime Chronicle: Man Struck with Shovel

Here are recent incidents responded to by Powder Springs police.

Sept. 18

Possession of Marijuana: An officer was dispatched to the 3800 block of Misty Bleu Drive on a medical call. The offender was in the back of an ambulance. “The offender’s grandmother called for the offender to be checked out because she stated he was acting like he was ‘on something,’” a report says. The officer retrieved a “brown rolled item” out of the offender’s pocket. The item didn’t smell like marijuana, so the officer put it in evidence to be tested.

Unknown Cause of Death: Regina Smalls was found in the bathroom of her home in the 3200 block of Delhi Drive not breathing. She had been checked by firefighters, who said she was “stiff and cold to the touch.” Police began their investigation.

Thursday

Aggravated assault: A Powder Springs police officer was dispatched to a Cobb hospital, where a resident from the 4000 block of Mistymorn Lane was recovering after being hit “multiple times” with a shovel. The man said he and his brother-in-law were drunk and arguing over a box of clothes. The man said he got in his brother-in-law’s face but turned around and walked away. When he turned back around, he said his brother-in-law swung a shovel at his face. He said he only remembered being hit once but believes he was struck other times because of the multiple marks on his head. The man said he didn’t want to press charges.
