Crime Chronicle: Thefts from Cars

Accounts of the following incidents are based on reports.

Theft from a Vehicle, Dec. 12, 3800 block of Blythewood Circle: Stolen from the vehicle was a Garmin GPS, two mounts for the Garmin, and an Apple iPad charger. All the items except the GPS were located at the end of the victim's driveway. The GPS was found with several other items in the backyard of an abandoned house in the 3500 block of Forest Hill Road. Several other vehicles in the area had been entered overnight. A suspect was caught after a foot pursuit. Here are briefs of other thefts from vehicles on Dec. 12:

• 3700 block of Tommy Drive: The report doesn't mention anything specifically stolen, ending with, "The reporting officer then started an investigation."
  
• 3700 block of Tommy Drive: Stolen from the unlocked vehicle was a Garmin GPS, a wallet, and several cards. The items were recovered in the area.
• 3700 block of Tommy Drive: The unlocked vehicle was "ransacked." Stolen was a loaded .380 Jennings pistol in a nylon holster.
• 3700 block of Tommy Drive: The victim said she didn't store anything of value in her vehicle, which had been "ransacked."
• 3700 block of Tommy Drive: The vehicle had been entered and "ransacked." The report doesn't list anything as stolen.
  
• 3800 block of Tommy Drive: Items were stewn about the truck, but nothing appeared missing.
• 3900 block of Glenbrook Drive: Stolen were two Tom Tom GPS units, two GPS cables, and two cell phone chargers.
• on Brownsville Road: Windows of two cars had been busted out. Stolen from one was a purse containing cards and checks. The victim's debit card was attempted to be used as a credt card at two different gas stations but was declined. Stolen from the other car was a purse containing several cards and $500.

Forgery, Dec. 14, on Sailors Parkway: A female pulled into a teller lane to try to cash a $1,000 check. The teller pulled up the account, and it showed the account's debit card had been stolen the day before. The teller called 911. "While on the phone, the subject asked the complainant several times if anything was wrong, and at one point requested the items she sent back," the report says. "Complainant kept telling her she was getting it together, however the female subject drove away from the location." Police obtained surveillance images of the subject.

Assault/Battery, Dec. 16, Macedonia Road at Kipling Drive: The complainant said she was "jumped," punched and pushed during an altercation with five juveniles.

Shoplifting, Dec. 17, on Hiram-Lithia Springs Road: An employee told police a man between 50 and 60 years old walked out with three pairs of earrings and rode off on a bicycle.
