Crime Chronicle: Unknown Cause of Death

Aug. 16

DUI, Child Endangerment (and other charges): Tammy Reese, a 33-year-old Powder Springs woman, was charged with driving under the influence, child endangerment and several other charges after being involved in a wreck with a juvenile boy and girl in the car. Read the full story .

Stolen Vehicle (and other charges): Police saw a Ford Expedition not use a turn signal on C.H. James Parkway shortly before midnight. An officer ran the tag number, and the car came out missing from Carroll County. Shawn Farnsworth, the driver, was wanted in Carroll and Douglas counties for unrelated charges. Farnsworth, of Villa Rica, was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, driving on a suspended license, and failure to use a turn signal. “My mom and dad sold my vehicle while I was in the shower, so I took the keys to their car and they are not getting it back,” he told police. The passenger, Chase Dean of Dallas, was wanted for violation of probation in Cobb.

Death (cause unknown): Police responded to a house in the 3600 block of Ten Oaks Circle about 9 a.m. Phyllis Staples appeared to have been deceased for “several hours,” according to a report. There was an injury to her forehead, possibly from when she fell. Staples’ daughter, who lives with her mother, said the last time she saw her alert was the prior night before she went to bed. The daughter said the only medical issue she knew of was high blood pressure.

Saturday

Burglary: Police were dispatched to a house in the 3600 block of Ponderosa Drive shortly after 11 p.m. in reference to a burglary. A woman told police that she had left home the night before, and when she returned Saturday night, her window air conditioning unit was on the ground and the window was open. Missing from the house were HP and Dell laptops, a portable DVD player, two Kodak digital cameras and a Vivitar digital camera.
