As of Wednesday afternoon, Hurricane Sandy's death toll stood at 59, a number that has been steadily climbing as the East Coast assesses the damage and continues recovery efforts from this week's superstorm.
The number, reported by the Associated Press via the New York Times, includes 22 in New York City.
