Man Charged with Stealing Truck from Alabama Dealership

Anthony Jerome Martin of Powder Springs told a detective he took the Silverado and put another vehicle's license plate on it, a police report says.

Anthony Jerome Martin, a 50-year-old Powder Springs resident, was arrested Friday for allegedly stealing a truck from an Alabama car dealership.

A Powder Springs police officer was driving on Powder Springs Road near the intersection of Hopkins Road about 3:30 p.m., according to a police report. The officer ran the license plate number of a white Chevrolet Silverado.

The license plate itself came back as stolen and belonging to a black 1994 Dodge Dakota in Dallas, GA, the report says.

The officer followed the car until it ended at 3688 Ponderosa Lane (see map at right). After exiting the police car, the officer told Martin to keep his hands out of his pockets.

Martin was put in handcuffs as the officer attempted to figure out the situation with the stolen plate, the report says. Another police officer arrived and talked with Martin while the first officer ran the truck’s VIN number.

Based on the VIN number, Cobb County dispatch told police that the truck, a 2006, was reported as stolen out of Alabama, the report says.

After being arrested and taken to the Powder Springs Police Department, Martin admitted to taking the car from an Alabama dealership during an interview with a detective, the report says. He also admitted to stealing the plate and putting it on the truck.

Martin was taken to the Cobb County jail and charged with theft of an automobile, as well as another theft and what’s listed as a miscellaneous offense.
