Man Draws Gun in Road Rage Incident

A Douglasville resident told police he must have cut the other drive off by accident on C.H. James Parkway.

A Douglasville man told police that he must have accidently cut another driver off on C.H. James Parkway, provoking the other driver to follow him into a parking lot on Brownsville Road and pull out a gun.

Police responded to the Papa John’s in the Brownsville Road shopping center on Friday afternoon, according to a report. The person who pulled the gun was reported to be a white male driving a black Ford Ranger and wearing a hat and black T-shirt.

Upon arrival, an officer noticed a black Ford Ranger with a driver matching the description of the person who pulled out the gun.

The officer pulled the driver over, handcuffed him, and told him that he matched the description of someone police were looking for, the report says. Shortly after, witnesses said that wasn’t the person, and the man was un-handcuffed “without delay.”

“He was able to hear the dispatcher give out the description and was shocked how close his description was to the perpetrator,” the report says.

Police then talked with the complainant, who had called from the Papa John’s. He said he was traveling north on C.H. James Parkway when he changed lanes to turn left onto Brownsville Road.

“He said he must have cut the guy off by accident, and he followed him into the (Kroger shopping center) parking lot,” the report says.

The driver confronted the victim as he exited the car. “The guy kept asking him if he was OK,” the report says.

The victim said he didn’t see a handgun, but other witnesses said they saw it, with one saying it was in his waistband.

The witness said she watched the man pull the gun from his waistband, the report says. She said she also heard the man yelling, “You OK! You OK!”

The victim continued to walk toward and into Papa John’s. The man drove his Ranger around the parking lot but later left, turning left onto Hiram-Lithia Springs Road.
