Marietta Woman Dies in Morning Crash

The crash occurred on Mableton Parkway a few minutes before 11 a.m. Friday.

The Cobb County Police Department announced Friday that they are looking into a morning crash in Mableton that claimed the life of a Marietta woman.

According to a CCPD news release, the crash occurred at 6328 Mableton Parkway about 10:50 a.m. Friday. According to investigators with the department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, the driver of a blue 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser was going east in the parking lot of a closed business and failed to see a tubular security gate on the southern edge of the parking lot. The driver of the Chrysler struck the security gate at relatively slow rate of speed and at an angle that caused the gate to penetrate the passenger compartment of the vehicle and impale the right front passenger.

The front seat passenger was identified by police as 62-year-old Sonja J. Hammer of Marietta, who succumbed to injuries she sustained in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
