Powder Springs Arrests: Valero Robbed; Parent, Nanny Dispute

Editor's Note: Accounts of the these incidents are based on Aug. 21-27 reports from  and what those involved tell police. The numbers match up with the incident locations on the above map.

Burglary, No Forced Entry (1)

When: July 23
Where: 4100 block of Misty Morn Way
A man came to the Powder Springs police station on Aug. 27 to press charges against a woman who told him in July she’d pay him back for two gold necklaces, a computer monitor and a cell phone, but didn’t. 

Armed Robbery; Aggravated Assault with a Gun (2)

When: Aug. 25, 11:14 p.m.
Where: Valero gas station at 3550 Powder Springs Road
Police were dispatched to the Valero in response to an armed robbery. An employee and witnesses said two males wearing black shirts and khaki pants had robbed the store. Cobb K9 units were contacted to try to track down the suspects. A description was radioed to other officers, and a Powder Springs detective arrived. The report’s narrative ends there, saying, “This is where my investigation begins,” and it doesn’t list anyone as charged or arrested.

Criminal Receipt of Goods (3)

When: Between July 5 and Aug. 23
Where: 3600 block of Hopkins Court
An employee of the Aaron’s on Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Hiram told police he had come to pick up property, delivered on July 5, because the purchaser hadn’t paid the bills. The items were a TV console, 70-inch LED TV, dryer and washer. The homeowner at the house the Aaron’s employee went to on Hopkins Road said she didn’t order the merchandise, and the property wasn’t inside. The alleged offender appeared to have used a false ID card to get the merchandise.  

Burglary, No Forced Entry (4)

When: Aug. 21
Where: 2800 block of Lost Lakes Way
A man told police that while inspecting his garage after hearing about recent neighborhood thefts, he noticed a machete, 4-inch fold knife, bottle of tequila, wine cooler and beer missing.

Burglary Forced Entry (5)

When: Aug. 22
Where: 3500 block of Hopkins Court
Someone broke into the house by apparently busting out a kitchen window, possibly with a lug wrench. Fingerprints were found. Stolen was a 26-inch LCD TV, laptop, camcorder, projector, paintball gun and two digital cameras.

Simple Battery Harm (6)

When: Aug. 20
Where: 3100 block of Palomino Drive
A woman said her child’s dad put his arms around her neck and choked her.

Thefts

• 4100 block of Woodcrest Lane (7): A man told police that someone who was taking him to the hospital while he was in poor health took a Colt Derringer without his permission on July 22, and said he’d eventually give it back but hadn't by Aug. 22.
• 3765 Powder Springs Road (8): The property manager of said a 24-year-old customer stole services and trespassed on Aug. 23.
• 3900 block of Buck Road (9): A woman said sometime between Aug. 24-27, someone took two air condition system condensers attached to the home. Police located a fingerprint. 
• 3700 block of Deer Creek Drive (10): Police responded to a civil dispute at a residence on Aug. 25. A man said he placed an ad for a full-time nanny for his children, including $700 a month, lodging and food. A woman was placed on a one-week probation period to see if she’d be right for the job. During that time, she wasn’t staying in the house, so she was let go. The woman then became “upset and demanded her $700.” She said the ad said the work was only 12 hours a day and paying $700 a week. The man paid her $140 for six days, and the woman took her stuff and left.
• 3300 block of Forest Hill Road (11): A man said he came to a rental house to remodel it on Aug. 25 and someone was taking scraps from the house. The man said the person taking the scraps put back a stove and gutters but not other scrap metal.
