Powder Springs Collects 51 Lbs. of Drugs

The Powder Springs Police Department participated in the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day last Saturday.

The Powder Springs Police Department collected 51 pounds of unwanted medication during last Saturday's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

It was the sixth time that the Drug Enforcement Administration put on the event. During the five previous Take-Back events, more than 2 million pounds (1,018 tons) of prescription medications were collected nationwide, according to the DEA.

"We are not a large community, but we very pleased with the large turnout of citizens disposing of 51 pounds of expired or unwanted prescription medication," said Maj. Matt Boyd with the Powder Springs Police Department. "If just one life was spared because prescription medicine did not fall into the wrong hands, then it was worth every second we spent."
