Powder Springs Crime Map: Cruelty to Children; Gas Station Fight

Here are recent incidents responded to by the Powder Springs Police Department and mapped out on the markers below.

Burglary—No Forced Entry

When: May 25-June 19
Where: 3500 block of Ten Oaks Circle
Police responded to an anonymous burglary call and discovered a rear sliding door and rear window open without damage. Once inside, they saw items strewn about. With the homeowner not there, police secured the house and left. At the station, they contacted the homeowner, who had been out of town since May 25. Police told her to check the house for missing items when she returned. While the homeowner was still out of town, someone visited the house for them and told police they believed the house had been burglarized a second time.

Burglary

When: June 2-June 20
Where: 3000 block of Kipling Drive
A woman said that while she and her family were away in California, someone took their John Deere tractor, a backpack blower and a weedeater.

Battery Visible Harm and 3rd Degree Cruelty to Children

When: June 24, 9-11 p.m.
Where: 4400 block of Pineview Drive
A man with an injury to his head came to the police station and told police that he was in a verbal dispute on Pineview Drive with Christopher Jonathan Brown, 28, earlier. Accompanying him at the station was Brown's sister, who told police she asked her brother to help remove the injured man from her house. But after she got off the phone with her brother, she and the injured man settled their dispute. Brown still came over, started a verbal dispute and struck him in the face. Visited by police, Brown admitted to hitting him. The son of Brown's sister saw the incident, resulting in a cruelty to children charge. Brown was also charged with battery visible harm.

Battery Visible Harm and False Statements/Writings

When: June 26
Where: Valero gas station on Powder Springs Road
Police were dispatched to the gas station in reference to a fight. Renarda Centelle Kelly, 31, of Marietta, told police the clerk attacked her and pulled out a machete. She said she was trying to buy something, but the clerk said her money was fake and kept it. The clerk said Kelly came behind the counter after him after he kept the counterfeit money. Police watched the store's surveillance video and saw the woman coming behind the counter and the clerk defending himself. Kelly was arrested on charges of battery visible harm and false statements and writings.

Burglary—No Forced Entry

When: Oct. 1, 2010—June 29, 2012
Where: 5600 block of Walnut Mill Lane (not found on map above)
The house's owner, who had not been there in quite a while, said someone stole two air conditioning units that were outside, and from the inside, a microwave, dishwasher, stove/range, refrigerator, washer, dryer and a grill. 

Burglary—No Forced Entry

When: July 2, 9:40 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: 3200 block of Caley Mill Drive
A woman told police that someone entered the garage of her soon-to-be home and stole a contractor's power drill. Contacted by phone, the contractor said he had left the garage open when he left.

Burglary—Forced Entry

When: July 5, 7:23-7:50 p.m.
Where: 4100 block of Brownsville Road
A woman told police that a house she and her husband were remodeling had its back glass door busted apparently by a rock. Missing was a skill saw and a box fan. 

Burglary—Forced Entry

When: July 6, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Where: 4100 block of Misty Morn Way
A woman said she was away from home for about an hour, and when she returned, the backdoor was wide open. Someone apparently had broken in through a back bottom floor window and exited through the backdoor. Missing was a TV and jewelry.

Burglary—Forced Entry

When: July 7, 2:25-3 a.m.
Where: 1200 block of Paddocks Way
A man told police that while he was away from his house for a day, it had been broken into, the rear door had been kicked in, and the rear window was shattered. Stolen was a 12-gauge shotgun, 46-inch TV and other items, though the TV was found nearby in some trees.
