Powder Springs Man Dies in Accident

The single-vehicle accident occurred just after 7 p.m. Thursday.

A 20-year-old Powder Springs man was killed in a single-vehicle accident Thursday night on Villa Rica Road near West Sandtown Road.

Preliminary information from investigators indicates that just after 7 p.m. Thursday, Russell Cordle of Powder Springs was driving a black 2000 Honda Civic eastbound on Villa Rica Road when the vehicle left the southern edge of the roadway and collided with the western end of a bridge guardrail, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, the spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department.

Investigators aren't sure why the Civic left the roadway.

"After striking the guardrail, the car came to an uncontrolled stop on the southern edge of the road," Pierce said in a news release.

Cordle died at the scene.
