Powder Springs Tire Shop 'Not Total Loss' After Fire

Responders had the blaze at Mac's Tire Service under control in about 30 minutes, and at one point, flames were "shooting through the roof."

Authorities are investigating what caused an early morning fire at in Powder Springs.

Firefighters were first called about 3:35 a.m. today and had it under control at 4:08 a.m., said Lt. Dan Dupree with Cobb Fire & Emergency Services. At one point, flames were shooting “through the roof” of the business at 4165 Austell-Powder Springs Road, he said.

No one was injured, but an employee was asleep in a car in the parking lot. The employee has not been linked to the fire, Dupree said.

The fire started in one of the three service bays at the rear of the old building, Dupree said. Firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to other sections and kept it away from the tires, but a car inside was destroyed, he said.

The building was “not a total loss,” he said.

Owner Kirk McCannon told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the business began in 1971 under his father and three generations in his family have worked there.

“Anything to do with automobile repair service, we lost,” McCannon told the newspaper. “All the racks, the lifts, all that stuff’s gone.”
