Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrest

Police say James Crowder, 33, had oxycodone and hydrocodone pills in his truck on Thursday.

James Crowder, a 33-year-old Mableton resident, was arrested late Thursday when police found oxycodone and hydrocodone in his car during a traffic stop, according to a report.

Crowder also had warrants in Douglasville for aggravated assault and narcotics, the report says.

An officer was patrolling C.H. James Parkway shortly after 11 p.m. when he noticed that the blue Dodge truck Crowder was driving had a broken taillight.

The officer was following the truck when Crowder failed to signal before turning onto Richard D. Sailors Parkway and pulled him over shortly after, the report says.

At first, the officer thought Crowder was under the influence. He was “acting nervous by looking around, flushed appearance and fumbling with his hands,” the report says.

Crowder said he had not been drinking.

“During my brief conversation with the accused, I could tell that he was not under the influence, but he was very nervous,” the officer writes.

After checking Crowder driver’s license, the officer saw the charges from Douglasville. Nine oxycodone pills and one hydrocodone pill were then found in the truck, the report says.

A passenger in the truck was released because there was no probable cause linking him to the pills.

Along with the Douglasville charges and the traffic violations, Crowder faces four charges of possession of synthetic narcotics, the report says. The Cobb County Sheriff Office's website also lists failure to appear in court and violation of probation charges.

He is being held at the Cobb County Jail without a bond.
