Woman Dies in West Cobb Accident

Three other people, including two juveniles, were injured in a crash Saturday on Mars Hill Road.

A Powder Springs woman died Saturday afternoon after her vehicle crashed into a car on Mars Hill Road.

Irene Giannangelo, 72, was pronounced dead at WellStar Kennestone Hospital, Cobb Police Officer Michael Bowman said in a release.

Bowman said she was driving a white 2011 Ford Escape northbound on Mars Hill near Nichols Road around 12:20 p.m. Saturday when the vehicle crossed the double yellow line and into a southbound lane, slamming into a white 2006 Mazda MVP driven by Julia Rivera, 31, of Powder Springs.

Rivera also was taken to Kennestone with non-life-threatening injuries, and two of the three children who were passengers in her car were taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite, also with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Cobb Police.

The third child was not injured and was released to the custody of a family member, Bowman said.

He said no charges are expected to be filed but the accident remains under investigation and that anyone with information is asked to call Cobb Police at 770-499-3987.
