City Clarifies Alcohol License Stipulation

The Powder Springs City Council on Monday clarified a stipulation placed on the alcohol license of the SKI 2 Food Mart, approved at the Jan. 3 meeting.

The stipulation prohibited all single sales of alcohol at the store at 4321 Brownsville Road, but was supposed to be specifically for single sales at the front of the store. The city’s code already bans such single sales, like in an iced tub near the checkout.

“What we were talking about was the ice thing up front where they can just take one (beer) off that,” Mayor Pat Vaughn said before the vote. “That’s what we meant, and so we just need clarification.”

Removing the stipulation and allowing the current code to cover the issue passed 4-1, with Councilwoman Nancy Hudson opposed. Hudson typically opposes measures involving alcohol, including that will allow citizens to give the thumbs up or down on Sunday alcohol on the March 6 presidential primary ballot.

With the council meeting lasting only 14 minutes, Vaughn joked that the short time broke a new record.
