The Cobb Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing Tuesday on the proposed Cobb County fiscal year 2014 budget.

The hearing takes place at 2 p.m. in the second floor BOC room, 100 Cherokee St., Marietta.

The proceedings also can be seen on the Cobb Public Access Channel, TV23, which also provides a live stream.

Last week, Cobb Commission chairman Tim Lee proposed a $744.6-million budget that includes a slight property tax decrease and performance-based pay raises for county employees (see attached PDF).

Among the points of contention is Lee's proposal to transfer $18 million from the Cobb water fund to the general fund. That move has long been opposed by East Cobb Commissioner Bob Ott, who renewed his complaint at last week's budget presentation, according to the MDJ

Lee said the transfer is needed to avoid raising property tax rates or reducing services.

The commissioners are scheduled to adopt the budget next Tuesday, Sept. 10.
