Cobb EMA Deputy Director Under Investigation

It wasn't clear Wednesday why Lanita Lloyd is on paid administrative leave.

Lanita Lloyd, deputy director of Cobb Emergency Management Agency, has been put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Lloyd said by phone Wednesday that she was told what the county is investigating but couldn’t comment on it.

“I’m not allowed to talk about it until the investigation is over,” she said.

County officials also declined to comment.

No one is filling in for Lloyd while she is out, said Robert Quigley, a spokesman for Cobb County. There is no need, he added, because County Manager David Hankerson is director of the department.

Quigley said he wasn’t sure how long the investigation will take.

“Certainly, we want to be thorough in our review,” he said.

Lloyd has worked for the county since 2003 and was appointed to the deputy director position in 2004. Prior to coming to Cobb, she spent 19 years working for the state, including time as a planner in the Georgia Office of Homeland Security.

She coordinated Cobb’s response and recovery efforts for two floods, two tornados and Hurricane Katrina. About 2,000 evacuees sought shelter in the county because of the hurricane, according to the county website.

Lloyd is also the executive board president of the Emergency Management Association of Georgia, according to the organization's website.

Lloyd’s husband, Mickey, was the county’s public safety director before resigning last July following a county investigation about discrepancies in his military record.

Lloyd graduated from Shorter College with a bachelor's in business administration and from Jacksonville State with a master’s degree in emergency management.
