Demolition Coming for 'Worst Property'

The Powder Springs City Council voted 5-0 Monday to award a $6,000 contract for demolition, plus $1,879 in preparation, under a nuisance abatement order.

The vandalized, trashed house on Misty Bleau Drive will be demolished.

That’s according to the City Council’s 5-0 vote Monday to award a $6,000 contract for demolition, plus $1,879 in preparation, under a nuisance abatement order.

“Certainly you hate to see a structure come down, but this one is so far gone,” interim City Manager said at Wednesday’s work session.

Among other problems, the owner can’t be found, there are holes in the walls, and copper lines and virtually everything else have been stolen from within the home at 3862 Misty Bleau Drive off Hopkins Road.

Powder Springs taxes haven’t been paid since 2010, county taxes since 2009, and the city is adding charges when employees mow the grass.

Repairs would have totaled an estimated $40,000, rendering the structure worthless. The land alone is valued at $14,000.

The costs incurred by the city—unpaid taxes, demolition and mowing—are being added to the tax bill, and officials hope to collect by selling the property.
