Officials are asking drivers to avoid Richard D. Sailors Parkway today due to a large amount of mud in the roadway.

According to the Powder Springs Police Department, a β€œlarge quantity of mud” was inadvertently released from a dump truck on the westbound lanes of the parkway between its intersections with New Macland Road and Old Lost Mountain Road.

Drivers who planned to travel down that stretch are recommended to bypass the parkway by using one of two detours:

  • Macland Road to Florence Road, or
  • Powder Springs Road (Business State Rte. 6) through the city of Powder Springs to Brownsville Road.

Cleanup crews have estimated the cleanup to continue well into the night.
