GDOT To Make Your Labor Day Travels Easier

Don't expect to see many orange barrels and cones during your travels next weekend.

You won’t see many construction workers laboring on Georgia’s roads over Labor Day weekend.

The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that all scheduled and ongoing construction-related lane closures in northwest Georgia would be suspended for the Labor Day long weekend, beginning at noon on Friday, Aug. 30, and extending to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.

“The only exception would be for emergency maintenance work in the case of traffic accidents, and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents,” said DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the Georgia DOT in Cartersville. “We understand that a lot of people are hitting the road for the Labor Day holiday and we would like to make it a little easier for them to go through Northwest Georgia.
