Gun Range Coming to Powder Springs

The facility is set to be built near the intersection of Elliot Road and Highway 278.

An indoor gun range is in the works for Powder Springs.

At Monday’s City Council meeting, the first reading was presented of an ordinance amendment that will allow recreation facilities, like a gun range, to be built in “mixed use” zoning areas. Building such facilities will still require special use permits approved by the council.

The proposed range is set to be built near the intersection of Elliot Road and Highway 278.

The second reading of the ordinance amendment is scheduled for the council’s next meeting on Nov. 7. At that meeting, members will also vote on the range’s zoning application.

Also on Monday, members approved an agreement with Utility Service Partners for voluntary water and sewer line insurance for residents. The cost is $4.25 a month for water lines and $5.50 for sewer.

The agreement says that for 10 percent of the revenue from the policies, the city would sign a marketing agreement with the company. This would include the city’s logo on envelopes and letters sent out twice a year—once in the springs and once in the fall.
