Probable Date for Fireworks: Oct. 8

The event that was canceled because of rain during Independence Day will likely be combined with Powder Springs Day.

Powder Springs has a definite date set for when fireworks will again illuminate the city’s night sky—well almost a definite date.

Mayor Pat Vaughn said she is “99.9 percent” sure that the fireworks will be shot off during Powder Springs Day, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8.

“We already had this date, we already had the entertainment, we already have everything,” she said.

The fireworks for the were canceled because of a heavy downpour.

“That was a rainout, but we can look forward to having the celebration at a cooler time,” the mayor said during Monday night’s City Council meeting.

The $10,000 fireworks contract with East Coast Pyrotechnics of Catawba, SC has an inclement weather portion, calling for an additional 15 percent in the event of a weather cancellation and the need to do the show at a later date.

The only other time the Independence Day Celebration has been rained out was in 2001, . “We have truly been blessed” only to have two weather cancellations, she added.

That event was rescheduled for September but was pushed to Veterans Day after the Sept. 11 attacks, the mayor said.
