Proposed Powder Springs Districts To Be Discussed Tuesday

A proposed change to Powder Springs’ city council districts is set to be one of the topics discussed during a town hall meeting Tuesday night—an event that also will feature Mayor Pat Vaughn’s annual State of the City address.

Tuesday’s meeting—scheduled to run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Coach Ford Center's Reception Hall, 4181 Atlanta St.—will allow residents to view and receive some details on the proposed changes to city council districts. PDF copies of the proposed maps are attached to this article.

The Powder Spring City Council is set to vote on the maps at its Feb. 18 meeting.

If approved, the maps would be effective with this year’s municipal elections for ward representatives. Residents on Nov. 5 will head to the polls to select council members for Wards 1, 2 and 3, which are currently being represented by Cheryl Sarvis, Al Thurman and Nancy Hudson, respectively.

Qualifying for the November election has yet to be scheduled, but the qualifying fee for the council seats has been set at $360. The city’s website says qualifying dates will be announced in June.

Those who cannot make it to Tuesday’s event to view the proposed council district maps also can view them at City Hall and the Powder Springs Library.
