Short Meeting Sees Patriotism, Sidewalk Repairs

The Powder Springs City Council also on Monday gave the go-ahead for Petal's Rose boutique and consignment shop to open up and made a couple appointments to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Perhaps the most exciting thing that happened at Monday night’s Powder Springs City Council meeting was two members of Cobb’s Sons of the American Revolution chapter attending in full Revolutionary attire.

They were there as Mayor Pat Vaughn read a proclamation recognizing April 19 as Patriots’ Day. The holiday marks the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, the first armed conflicts of the Revolutionary War.

The council then made two appointments to the Planning and Zoning Commission: Councilwoman Nancy Hudson’s nomination, Nancy Farmer, wife of former and now deceased Councilman Bob Farmer; and Councilman Chris Wizner’s nomination, Shelia Marshall, who was a reappointment to the commission.

Also at the 23-minute meeting, members approved:

  • A $5,465 contract with Pime Contracts to repair 211 feet of sidewalk in the Lost Mountain Lakes subdivision.
  • to open up on Sailors Parkway.
  • And an alcohol license for the . The vote was 4-1, with Hudson dissenting as she typically does on alcohol issues.

Vaughn thanked those who put on and those who attended .
