West Cobb Road To Remain Closed

Weather-related construction delays will keep Powder Springs drivers detouring for another two weeks.

Construction on a West Cobb road will continue a bit longer than expected, and drivers will have to continue to take a detour around it.

The portion of Powder Springs Road from Richard D. Sailors Parkway to Old Austell-Powder Springs Road has been closed since May 28 as crews replace a bridge over the Silver Comet Trail. The road was scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Aug. 6, but officials say drivers will have to detour for another two weeks as the work is not yet completed.

“Due to the unusual number of rain days we have experienced, the contractor has informed us that the road will not be open until Aug. 19,” City Manager Brad Hulsey told West Cobb Patch via email Monday.

Hulsey said city officials have contacted Cobb County Schools’ transportation department to inform them of the need to re-route buses while construction continues into the school year. Cobb students return to classes on Wednesday.
