Cobb Area Superintendent To Lead Alabama District

Doreen Griffith's departure follows that of West Cobb area superintendent Rick Beaulieu.

The Cobb County School District is losing another area superintendent.

East Cobb area superintendent Doreen Griffeth has been named superintendent of Cullman (Ala.) City Schools just north of Birmingham, according to the Marietta Daily Journal.

Griffeth moved to Cobb 24 years ago, and spent time at LaBelle, Mountain View, Shallowford Falls and Rocky Mount elementary schools before her promotion to Area 3 superintendent in 2011, according to the MDJ. As Area 3 superintendent, Griffeth had oversight of Lassiter, Pope, Walton and Wheeler high schools and 21 feeder schools.

Her first day in Cullman is set for Aug. 1. Griffeth's is the third departure this year.

Last month, the MDJ reported that West Cobb area superintendent Rick Beaulieu was leaving to become the executive director of the human resources center of expertise for the Atlanta Public Schools.

The Cobb Board of Education in March approved the retirement request of Ed Thayer, who was responsible for the area that now includes Kell and Sprayberry high school and 20 feeder schools.

Cobb Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said he expects to fill the vacancies left by Beaulieu and Griffeth. He said he will not replace Thayer because of budget restraints, according to the MDJ.
