Cobb School Board Chairwoman Won't Run Again

Kathleen Angelucci will step down when her term expires at the end of the year.

A week after being voted chairwoman of the Cobb Board of Education, Kathleen Angelucci announced Friday she won't seek re-election later this year.

In an interview with The Marietta Daily Journal, Angelucci said she was sticking to her pledge to serve only one term

A Republican, Angelucci was elected in 2010 to serve Post 4, which includes the Kell and Sprayberry high school districts of Northeast Cobb.

Most recently she spearheaded efforts to revise the staff discipline policy for the Cobb County School District after several teachers and administrators were terminated without due process.

Two other Cobb school board members up for re-election this year -- Republicans Scott Sweeney of Post 6 in East Cobb and Tim Stultz of Post 2 in Smyrna -- haven't announced whether they'll be running.
