Cobb School Board To Meet with Grand Jury

A request was sent to all seven members on March 25.

On March 25, a Cobb County grand jury sent a request to meet with all seven members of the county’s Board of Education on April 1 at 9:30 a.m. in the Grand Jury Room at 10 East Park Square in Marietta.

“We can’t discuss anything that the grand jury does,” said Kathy Watkins, a spokeswoman for the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office.

Watkins said the grand jury will have a “general presentment” of any recommendations, complete disclosure of the individuals appearing before them, and what they discussed on May 5, “but until then, it’s private.”

Board of Education member David Morgan, who serves South Cobb area schools, said that having board members appear before a grand jury  is not "an uncommon occurrence."

"But they’ve never called the entire board at one time since I’ve been on the board," he said.
