College Students Tied Up, Robbed

Two male students at the Atlanta campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design were tied up, robbed and beaten in a dormitory on Wednesday. 

The victims were not seriously injured, and Atlanta police are looking for two black male students. Read more...

This Day in History: First Bartow Deputy Killed

It was 84 years Thursday that the first known Bartow County Sheriff's deputy died in the line of duty.

According to a news release from the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, the incident that resulted in the death of Deputy William Jasper Vaughn on Sept. 20, 1928 began when two men entered Sodie Collum’s store south of Emerson between 8 and 9 p.m. They tried to pay with a $20 bill, which Collum immediately recognized as counterfeit. Zoo Atlanta Snake Weighs 97 Pounds

How much does a snake weigh? That’s what Zoo Atlanta asked of its largest resident of the World of Reptiles, a female reticulated python.

Once a year, she is measured and weighed. On Tuesday, Zoo Atlanta’s herpetology staff weighed her at 44 kilograms—about 97 pounds—and measured her at 15 feet, 11 inches. Read more...

Georgia Unemployment Remains at 9.2

Georgia's August unemployment rate of 9.2 percent has stabilized, but it's still higher than the national rate of 8.1.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is unchanged from July, when the preliminary 9.3 percent rate was revised to 9.2. Read more...

Brookhaven May Foot $30K Run-Off Bill

With 24 candidates running for the mayor and four City Council seats, Brookhaven is almost guaranteed to have a run-off election on Dec. 4, because in order to win any election in Georgia, a candidate must receive more than 50 percent of the votes cast.

And when Brookhaven has its run-off, it will have to foot an estimated $30,000 bill. Read more...
