Douglas Adopts 2011-2012 School Calendar

After two separate calendar surveys, the Board of Education also released the calendar for 2012-2013.

The Douglas County Board of Education adopted calendars for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years Monday evening.

The school system announced three calendar options on Dec. 16, and parents, staff and other citizens of the county were encouraged to vote for their preferred option.

By the deadline Jan. 11, no calendar option had received at least 50 percent of the vote—with 2,300 people casting votes. The Board of Education then narrowed the options to two, hoping one would be the clear favorite. The deadline for the second vote was Feb. 1.

Only 21 votes separated the choices after 2,945 people weighed in.

"Since both calendars are equally popular, we adopted Calendar Option B for 2011-2012 and Calendar A (with an adjustment to start in August) for 2012-2013,” Superintendent Dr. Gordon Pritz said via e-mail.
