Lovinggood Wins Grant for Being a 'Champion of Wellness'

School receives $10,000 for fitness program.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation in partnership with the General Mills Foundation has awarded a $10,000 to Lovinggood Middle School for its Champions for Healthy Kids program.

Lovinggood was one of 50 national recipients out of 1,200 organizations that applied for the grant. The Lovinggood Champions for Wellness Team — which includes the Physical Education department teachers Jodi Kruta, Rita Forsythe, Mike Sides and Tony Morgan and Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Dawn Castleberry — developed the application along with a program to help students improve nutrition and fitness.

This program targets the 1,400 students at the school and neighboring community by constructing a 1/4 mile track to surround the school’s exercise field.
