Marietta Facility to Offer Back-to-School Immunizations

School starts Aug. 7 in Cobb.

With the Cobb and Douglas county school systems set to start the new school year on Aug. 7, Cobb & Douglas Public Health announced today that it is offering back-to-school immunizations and screenings at its health clinics in Marietta, East Cobb, Acworth and Douglasville.

"We want to ensure that every student, whether just starting elementary school or entering college, is fully protected," district immunization director Karen Thomas said in a statement.

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions.

When is Cobb & Douglas Public Health offering immunizations and screenings?

  • 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • The East Cobb health clinic is at 4938 Lower Roswell Road; the Acworth facility is at 4489 Acworth Industrial Drive; the Douglasville is at 6770 Selman Drive; and the Marietta facility is at 1650 County Services Pkwy.
  • Appointments are not required at the Marietta Public Health Center to be vaccinated.

What should parents bring to appointments?

  • Your child’s immunization records.
  • Children entering kindergarten and those new to Georgia: Immunization Certificate, Georgia Form 3231, and a Dental, Vision and Hearing Form 3300.

What are the required immunizations?

  • Children entering kindergarten: May need a second dose of varicella (chicken pox), measles and mumps vaccines and a booster dose of DTap and IPV.
  • Children entering the sixth grade: May need another dose of chicken pox vaccine if they have not had chicken pox disease and another dose of MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella). It is recommended that children 11-12 years of age also receive TDap, Meningitis and HPV.
  • High school and college students: Meningitis vaccine that prevents meningococcal disease.
