McEachern Coach No Longer Cobb Schools Employee

Terence Tarpley resigned on June 19, nine days before a sexual assault warrant was taken out by police.

Terence Tarpley, the teacher and coach , is no longer an employee of the Cobb County School District.

The 33-year-old Marietta resident resigned on June 19, a school district spokesman confirmed to Patch. A warrant for sexual assault was taken out by Cobb police on June 28, the same day he turned himself at the Cobb jail. 

He shortly after midnight on June 29. A contact number for Tarpley couldn't immediately be found.

Tarpley had been an assistant coach on McEachern's football, girls basketball, and track and field teams. 

Police believe that on Sunday, Jan. 8, he had a sexual relationship with an adult female student off campus. The first day of the second semester was Tuesday, Jan. 10.

A revision of Georgia law that went into effect in May 2010 says that if teachers have sexual relations with students, it's considered sexual assault regardless of age. If a person is convicted, they could spend one to 30 years in jail, be required to pay fines, or both.
