McEachern Robotics Places in Top 15

The team had six weeks to build their robot for the FIRST Peachtree Regional robotics competition.

From McEachern High:

The Indians FIRST Robotic Team competed in the Peachtree Regional robotics competition on March 15, 16 and 17 at the Gwinnett Area.

There were 60 teams at this year’s event, and the Indians showed their robotic skills by placing 15. This robot was constructed to play basketball in a challenge called Rebound Rumble

The robot had to also balance on a bridge in the last 30 seconds to acquire more points. This required a skilled student hand and precise-moving robot.  The team was comprised of graphic artists, computer programmers, and robotic design and construction sub units.

The team had six weeks to build this robot, which included many after-school and weekend meetings with grants from NASA, GE, UTC and JC Penney.

This year, there were two new faculty advisors, Ms. Heather Jones and Ms. Tracy Mayfield. They helped team mentors Mr. Paul Eubanks and Mr. Robbie Blakemore continue the student’s growth with science and technology.

With all of this support, the students learned personal growth and the value of being on a team working towards a common goal.

At the regional event, Ndubusi Anyanwu and Kaytlan Anderson were selected to play with the Harlem Globetrotters during the event. What a memory for them and the team!

The team completed several community service projects, including working to repair trails at Kennesaw Mountain National and working on a leash awareness program for the park superintendent.

They demonstrated the robot for several public awareness projects, including JC Penney and Marietta City Schools Engineering Expo at Southern Poly State University.

A special thanks to Jonathan Davidson and Peter Jolles, engineers from General Electric, Kyle Eubanks from Southern Poly State University, Christine Carlos from JC Penney, and the many parents that helped with the team’s success.
