Video: Lady Indians Talk Success, Possibility of State Championship

Under the leadership of six Division I recruits, the McEachern girls basketball team is 15-0 and ranked top 5 nationally.

The girls basketball team is perfect at 15-0 and ranked as one of the best teams in the country. But the Lady Indians aren't relishing in the now; their sights are on something they fell just short of last year: a state championship.

"If we don’t win the main game … all this doesn’t mean as much," head coach Phyllis Arthur said at Thursday's practice.

The Lady Indians to Norcross 61-36. But earlier this season, they defeated the Lady Blue Devils 55-43, the Gwinnett Daily Post reports.

ESPN puts the team at No. 4 in the country, while USA Today has them at No. 3.

McEachern is averaging 62.27 points per game, while their opponents average 39.8. The squad is led by four senior Division I recruits and six overall. They are:

  • Senior Patches Roberts, 17.2 points per game (Syracuse)
  • Senior Dominique Wilson, 15.3 ppg (University of Arkansas)
  • Senior Destinie Gibbs, 8 ppg (Ole Miss)
  • Senior Kayla Montgomery, 5 ppg (Clemson)
  • Junior Mia Cooper, 5.7 ppg (verbal to the University of South Carolina)
  • Freshman Te'a Cooper, 11.5 ppg (verbal to the University of North Carolina)
